I love Jackson Browne’s music. Everyone that knows me, knows that. This is one of my favourites. Most people know the Nico version from the Royal Tenenbaums, but there have been dozens of notable covers. At the risk of looking really bad by comparison, here is my version, followed by one I shot from the audience a few weeks ago, and some of my favourite covers…

After one and a half years of growing out this mane, the time has come to pay it forward to a greater purpose than peacocking, arousing suspicion in the minds of customs officers, and making Grammie uncomfortable. That greater purpose is becoming a wig for a child with cancer.

My friend Emma Bedoukian has done some great volunteer work with Camp Oochigeas and her most recent initiative, “A Night for Ooch in Kingston Fundraiser”, will be no exception. It is at this event on March 31st, that I will be losing the locks for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Beautiful Lengths Campaign. PLEASE visit the fundraiser website and donate what you can to help a deserving child make it to camp this summer. I know Grammie will be donating the entire “bribe Peter to get a haircut because I want my only grandson to look like one” fund!

I have been off the grid, woodshedding in various locales, squatting in the bushes, preparing for my return to the Internet. If anyone feels like they’ve been stuck in Saigon waiting for a mission, I have one for you…

Become a car racing micro-sponsor! Motorsports sponsor? Isn’t that sort of thing reserved for oil tycoons, rebel billionaires, and guys with yachts? What car? Yes. No. The 1986 BMW 325e that Derek and I are entering into the Magnum Ice Racing Series. Imagine the movie Tokyo Drift, but with less neon, more flannel, and on ice rather than in parking garages. The project has been documented closely, and will be covered in various publications around the physical and virtual world. What is a micro-sponsor you ask? Well, since I can’t expect most of my friends to pony up the thousands of dollars a corporate sponsor would for this project, I would like to offer you the opportunity to get involved in denominations of $18. Micro-sponsors will have their names written on the car in a “tag cloud” style, with largest donors commanding the most surface area. Micro-sponsors will be named in the credits of the finished micro-documentary about the adventure, and in every viral video that goes out about the project. If you have something to promote (an online cooking show?), or just want to pay a small amount of money to have your name immortalized in motor sport legend (can be a fake name, someone else’s name, or a quote under 140 characters), this is your opportunity. Anyone that pays $108 or more can come ride shotgun in a heat race (the passenger seat has a 6 point harness and the car has a full roll cage, so I can be quite sure that no harm will befall you. Can’t guarantee you won’t pee yourself out of excitement.)

Included here is a photo of the unfinished car with a few of the title sponsor’s logos (www.virgingaming.com). This Friday, the car gets picked up from the race shop where the cage is being welded in, and finishing touches are being put on the rest of the vehicle. Final graphics go on next week. Don’t wait too long.

After experimenting with the real deal, and fuji’s modern take on the real deal, I decided to go the decidedly less analog route and experiment with the free Instagram iphone app (VICE Magazine contributing photographer job downloaded separately). Not bad, but I can’t help but feel a little bit totally douchey all of the time for vintaging up perfectly good digital iphone images. Oh well. Here are some examples of what this versatile little app can do…

Derek and I are embarking on a quest for winter ice racing dominance  participation. We picked up this german sports car on the weekend. Huge thanks to the Pigott brothers, Jeremey and Matt for providing the SUV and manpower required for moving this vehicle from St. Catherines to the top secret DSC Free Test Track/Wind Tunnel/Garage in Creemore (it’s cleverly disguised as a working farm).
