Today was the end of an era; 338 changed owners an hour ago. Liam, Olivia, Diandra and I went in at dawn this morning for the last time to take a few pictures of the empty house; what remains is just a shell. These photos don’t reveal much to anyone that doesn’t remember what it looked like when lived in, but will bring back memories for those that do.
This house has been a place where friends have gathered for about two decades, and most recently, where The Duncan Davies EP, the Treasures EP, and Les Bad Guys EP were recorded (all with the working title “Music from Bigger Pink” at some stage in the projects). Most other stories that come to mind about 338 can be filed under “a lot less funny when read back in court”, and aren’t all my stories to tell anyway (feel free to share what you will in the comments section). One of the first memories I have of the house, though, is walking into the playroom when I was about 4 or 5 and seeing a mall-style coin operated ride in the corner; my young mind was totally blown. Since then, cars have been drifted in and around the driveway/yard, mountain bikes have been jumped off the roof into the ravine, and many a projectile launched from the roof balcony with the canon.
With Liam and Sebastian living alone there for the past while, guests walked through a bit of a reality-distortion field when entering the property; the most common sounds coming from the grounds were Parrot noises, live music, 2 stroke engines, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare at full blast. Liam and his family were incredibly generous and gracious hosts to everyone that ever visited, and anybody that ever experienced 338 owes them a huge debt of gratitude for their hospitality.
Here are the shots from today. I wouldn’t be comfortable sharing many older photos of the lived-in house, but fill in the spaces, and you can imagine how ridiculous this was in its day.

I remember a night when there was a party at Liams. I got drunk and these girls came over. I went to try and talk to them and lean on a wall and my hand slipped. I fell face first in front of all of them. There are a lot of other ridiculous memories, but that one sticks with me to this day.
There’s a lot of other stuff that went down there, almost too much to remember, but I had forgotten about the physical structure it had all happened. Especially seeing the picture of the revolving staircase brought me back to highschool.
